CC According to a survey on the use of muscle relaxants, there are a lot of cases where routine monitoring of the neuromuscular junction using a nerve stimulator is not applied, nor is quantitative evaluation of the Train of Four (TOF) performed when using a non-depolarizing muscle relaxant. Moreover, the need for monitoring is itself being questioned [1]. Thus, unless the physician has a special interest in monitoring the effect of muscle relaxants, there is a lack of interest in the correct method of monitoring. Therefore, it is essential to promote the need for accurate monitoring when using muscle relaxants through education, especially when the incomplete block of the neuromuscular junction is in question. Monitoring of the neuromuscular junction can be an effective method in determining the dose and time of administration of muscle relaxants for induction or intubation, especially where deep muscular relaxation is required to repress detrimental reflexes. It is also useful in cases where maintenance of muscle relaxation is continuously required, to identify residual muscle relaxation during recovery from anesthesia, during long periods of mechanical ventilation, or in cases where a motor evoked potential is monitored during surgery.

Intraoperative acceleromyography monitoring reduces symptoms of muscle weakness and improves quality of recovery in the early postoperative period.
BACKGROUND The subjective experience of residual neuromuscular blockade after emergence from anesthesia has not been examined systematically during postanesthesia care unit (PACU) stays. The authors hypothesized that acceleromyography monitoring would diminish unpleasant symptoms of residual paresis during recovery from anesthesia by reducing the percentage of patients with train-of-four ratios...

A 54-year-old man was admitted to the intensive care unit with an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and subsequently underwent mechanical ventilation and received neuromuscular blocking drugs to control refractory elevated intracranial pressure. During quantitative EEG monitoring, an automated alert was triggered by the train of four peripheral nerve stimulation artifacts. Real-time feedback w...

Background: Incident of fire within or outside the metro rail trains happened because of a number of reasons that cause catastrophic losses and shock to the community. This study aimed to assess the risk of fire in DC trains and subway lines in Tehran. Methods: For performing this research, after identification of fire hazards in metro trains through observation, interview techniques and revi...

There is now mounting evidence that even small degrees of postoperative residual neuromuscular block increases the incidence of adverse respiratory events in the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit and may increase longer-term morbidity as well. In the absence of quantitative neuromuscular monitoring, residual block is easily missed. A very strong case can be made for the routine administration of a non...

BACKGROUND Quantitative neuromuscular monitoring is the gold standard to detect postoperative residual curarization (PORC). Many anesthesiologists, however, use insensitive, qualitative neuromuscular monitoring or unreliable, clinical tests. Goal of this multicentre, prospective, double-blinded, assessor controlled study was to develop an algorithm of muscle function tests to identify PORC. M...
